Top 5 Most Targeted Industries For Cyber Attacks

According to IBM’s 2014 Cyber Security Intelligence Index, over 75 percent of the cyber attacks the company monitored in 2013 targeted the following five industries:

1. Finance and insurance (23.8 percent)
2. Manufacturing (21.7 percent)
3. Information and communication (18.6 percent)
4. Retail and wholesale (6.2 percent)
5. Health and social services (5.8 percent)

Every day, more than 1 million people become victims of cyber crime. Cyber criminals look for the weak spots and then attack, no matter how large or small the organization. Cyber attacks can result directly from deliberate actions of hackers, or attacks can be unintentionally facilitated by employees—for example, if they click on a malicious link.

Check out these 3 reasons why hackers love your small business:

Jimmy Kimmel Surprises Hero Who Saved Man From Burning Building

Here’s a good news story: Recently in Fresno, California an unidentified man wearing a Dodgers baseball cap was captured on video rescuing a stranger from a house fire. His name turned out to be Tom Artiaga. Jimmy invited him on the show to reward his good deeds with the help of legendary Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda.

Right on Jimmy Kimmel! And even better, the story involved my Dodgers 🙂

2014 CPCU Society Annual Conferment Ceremony

On Saturday I joined the ranks of the CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) Class of 2014. CPCU’s pass eight national exams on topics including insurance law, accounting, risk management, and ethics. Over the past four years I completed these eight tests and Saturday was the national conferment ceremony right in our own backyard, Anaheim CA. Magic Johnson was the keynote speaker.

Here are some pictures of the event with family:

Botched Proposal

I recommend scheduling your fine jewelry on your homeowners insurance policy. Don’t be like this guy

Take extra special care of those engagement and/or wedding rings. If these aren’t scheduled on homeowners or renters insurance policies, you only get a limited amount of coverage in the event of a loss.

(I need to get a personal insurance post up here from time to time)

Hurricane Odile Slams Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Exactly one month ago, my wife Joanelle and I were vacationing in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Fast forward one month to Monday 9/15, Hurricane Odile left the town a ‘Demolished Paradise.’ The storm roared through as a Category 3 packing 125-mph wind.

It’s sad and disturbing to see the stories, photos and videos in the news. One video that stands out the most to me is this one of El Arco de Cabo San Lucas:

Compare this with our photos of this very same spot taken on 8/16/14:

photo 1I’m wishing everyone who’s been affected the best and I hope Cabo can rebound quickly from the devastation to become the beautiful place it truly is.
