Jimmy Kimmel Surprises Hero Who Saved Man From Burning Building
Here’s a good news story: Recently in Fresno, California an unidentified man wearing a Dodgers baseball cap was captured on video rescuing a stranger from a house fire. His name turned out to be Tom Artiaga. Jimmy invited him on the show to reward his good deeds with the help of legendary Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda.
Right on Jimmy Kimmel! And even better, the story involved my Dodgers 🙂

2014 CPCU Society Annual Conferment Ceremony
On Saturday I joined the ranks of the CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) Class of 2014. CPCU’s pass eight national exams on topics including insurance law, accounting, risk management, and ethics. Over the past four years I completed these eight tests and Saturday was the national conferment ceremony right in our own backyard, Anaheim CA. Magic Johnson was the keynote speaker.
Here are some pictures of the event with family:

Botched Proposal
I recommend scheduling your fine jewelry on your homeowners insurance policy. Don’t be like this guy
Take extra special care of those engagement and/or wedding rings. If these aren’t scheduled on homeowners or renters insurance policies, you only get a limited amount of coverage in the event of a loss.
(I need to get a personal insurance post up here from time to time)

Hurricane Odile Slams Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Exactly one month ago, my wife Joanelle and I were vacationing in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Fast forward one month to Monday 9/15, Hurricane Odile left the town a ‘Demolished Paradise.’ The storm roared through as a Category 3 packing 125-mph wind.
It’s sad and disturbing to see the stories, photos and videos in the news. One video that stands out the most to me is this one of El Arco de Cabo San Lucas:
Compare this with our photos of this very same spot taken on 8/16/14:
I’m wishing everyone who’s been affected the best and I hope Cabo can rebound quickly from the devastation to become the beautiful place it truly is.

Southern California Fire Danger Rises Amid Heat Wave
Forecasters say a heat wave building across Southern California will elevate fire danger through early next week.
The National Weather Service says temperatures will edge upward to around 100 degrees in warmest areas Friday and the peak of the heat wave will extend from Saturday through Monday, with records likely.
You’ll find me on the Long Beach Peninsula on Sunday for sure.

Surf In Long Beach – 8/27/2014
Wednesday 8/27/14 was a rare day in Long Beach and a crazy one in general for Los Angeles and Orange County beaches. Monster waves sparked by Hurricane Marie brought waves to Long Beach……and pretty nice and big ones too. Big enough to penetrate the breakwater barrier surrounding the Long Beach shorelines. The Peninsula was lined with surfers, spectators, and heavy equipment operators trying to maintain a barrier to protect beachfront homes.
I had a chance to see for myself for a few minutes yesterday morning around 9AM-ish  It was a nutty sight considering we pretty much never see waves in Long Beach as a result of the breakwater barrier. I didn’t get any of my own photos or videos, but compiled others below. Who else in Long Beach witnessed this first-hand??
